Tarek Ammar, M.D. was the former Chief of Gastroenterology at University Medical Center of Southern Nevada and the Director of Endoscopy at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
Dr. Ammar is Board Certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. His interests include the diagnosis and management of pancreatitis, gastrointestinal cancers, bile duct diseases and emerging endoscopic weight loss procedures. He is an expert in ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and in the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of complex gastrointestinal disorders. He also performs a wide array of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, small bowel endoscopy, wireless capsule endoscopy, radiofrequency ablation therapy for Barrett’s esophagus, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) for early esophageal and stomach cancers as well as large colon polyps, endoscopic luminal stenting and fiducial placement.
He is a member of several prestigious professional organizations, including the American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and American Gastroenterology Association. Dr. Ammar has published articles for many internationally recognized peer-reviewed publications including Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Additionally, Dr. Ammar was recognized as a “Top Doctor” by Las Vegas Seven Magazine in 2014 and 2015.
Dr. Ammar received his Medical Degree from the Faculté de Medicine de Tunis. After residency in Internal Medicine at Drexel University in Philadelphia, he completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology, followed by highly specialized training in Advanced Interventional Endoscopy at the renowned Washington University in St. Louis. He is one of a very small number of practitioners in Nevada to have completed formal training in advanced interventional endoscopy.
