The Impact of Endoscopy on Digestive Health and Treatment

A Healthy GI System in Nevada

CDIN (Comprehensive Digestive Institute of Nevada) is located in Henderson, NV, a suburb of Las Vegas, NV, and cares for the digestive health of the residents of Las Vegas and surrounding communities.

Our excellent facility has eleven top-notch, outstanding, experienced, and skilled gastrointestinal doctors who direct, diagnose, and treat patients daily for digestive disturbances.

Our doctors want you to understand what a minimally invasive upper endoscopy is and why one of our doctors may order this test for you.

What is and Why an Endoscopy?

Our doctor can only see your inner esophagus or stomach with the right tool to help him diagnose and treat whatever ails you.

An endoscope is a long, thin, flexible tube with a light and camera on the end. It runs through your mouth, esophagus, and stomach.

CDIN in Las Vegas, NV, explains that as the doctor guides this tube, he watches a monitor, like a television screen, and can visualize your throat, esophagus, and stomach, looking for anything that tells him why you are having problems. Knowing the correct diagnosis directs the doctor to the right treatment plan.

While this test sounds uncomfortable, rest assured, you feel nothing because you are asleep under gentle anesthesia during the whole procedure.

Why is an Endoscopy Required?

  • Persistent heartburn, acid reflux, or abdominal pain
  • Extensive, severe digestive disorders
  • For diagnosis
  • Biopsy of tissue
  • Cancer screening
  • Risk factors.
  • Tumor/polyp removal
  • To identify internal bleeding, reason, source

How Does a Minimally Invasive Endoscopy Help the Doctor?

What Should I Expect?

This test allows the doctor to see the problem, diagnose it, and treat it accordingly.

You can expect us to take your vital signs several times before, during, and after your procedure. You will receive an IV while awake that enables us to administer medication and your sedative for sleep. You will soon fall into a twilight sleep.

The doctor inserts a thin, flexible tube through your mouth, throat, esophagus, and stomach. The doctor examines the lining of all these areas and can pinpoint ulcers, bleeding, lesions, polyps, and more. Depending on what the doctor finds, this test can take 15 minutes to 60 minutes.

When the procedure is over, you are taken to a recovery room until you awaken and have fluids to drink. Our doctor will discuss his findings, diagnosis, and possible treatment options.
